Beat the Backlist

Beat the Backlist: September 2021

Good morning, everyone! It’s the last day of September, and time for another Beat the Backlist update.

In last month’s update, I talked about the fact that I had only eight prompts remaining in this year’s challenge, and that I only needed to complete two prompts per month to finish the challenge before the end of the year. My original plan for September was to tackle the “banned book” and “genre you never/rarely read” prompts.

As it turned out, I ended up completing five prompts this month, putting myself significantly ahead of schedule.

Here are the prompts and books I completed during the month of September:

I had the opportunity to post reviews of two of these titles earlier this month, and I am currently planning to post my reviews of the remaining books during the month of November.

I’m currently feeling really good about my Beat the Backlist progress. As of today, I only have three prompts remaining, which puts my challenge completion at just over 94%. Given this month’s progress, I shouldn’t have any difficulty completing my remaining prompts before the end of the year.

Here’s a look at my current bingo board progress…

This is my current bingo board progress as of September 30th. This month’s reads are represented by the orange leaf stamps.

Starting tomorrow, I am going to be participating in the Seasons of Reading FrightFall Readathon. Since this particular readathon lasts for the entire month of October, I am going to be devoting the majority of the month to reading and reviewing spooky books. Because of this (and because I ended up completing more prompts than I’d originally intended this month), I am currently planning to complete only one additional Beat the Backlist prompt during October. Specifically, I’ll be reading Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree for the “book set in autumn” prompt.

My next Beat the Backlist update will be posted on Sunday, October 31st. In the meantime, I hope you’ll join me here on The Unapologetic Bookworm throughout the coming month for book reviews and other new content.

Have a great rest of the week!
