Good morning, everyone! The final day of August has arrived, and it’s time once again for a Beat the Backlist update.
In last month’s update, I mentioned that I had one goal for the month of August, which was to complete three additional Beat the Backlist prompts. However, unlike previous months, I wanted to complete three specific prompts, including “all about music,” “non-binary protagonist,” and “good book, bad cover.”
I was able to complete all three of these prompts, and actually started reading a book that would have completed a fourth. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed with the book I’d chosen for that fourth prompt. I ended up deciding not to finish it after only two chapters.
Here are the prompts and books I completed during the month of August:
- All about music:
- Non-binary protagonist:
- Phoenix Extravagant (Yoon Ha Lee)
- Good book, bad cover:
- Peril At End House (Agatha Christie)
While I have not yet had the opportunity to review all of these titles here on The Unapologetic Bookworm, I will be posting reviews of Phoenix Extravagant and Peril At End House before the end of next month.
Overall, I’m feeling really good about my recent progress on this year’s Beat the Backlist challenge. I currently have only eight prompts remaining, which puts my challenge completion at approximately 84%. If I complete two prompts per month for the rest of the year, I should have no difficulty finishing the challenge by December 31st.
Here is a look at my current bingo board progress…
My goal for the month of September is to complete at least two additional Beat the Backlist prompts and get one additional bingo. While I have not chosen specific titles for next month’s Beat the Backlist reading, I am planning to tackle this year’s “banned book” prompt, as well as “genre you never/rarely read.” Do you think I’ll be able to complete my goals during the upcoming month? You can let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
My next Beat the Backlist update will be posted on Thursday, September 30th. In the meantime, I hope you’ll continue to visit The Unapologetic Bookworm during the coming month for book reviews and other new content.
Have a great rest of the week!
