The Way of the Househusband, Volume Five

Whether you’re reading novels, comic books, or manga, one of the problems with reading ongoing series is having to wait for the next installment to be released. And let’s face it, it can be very hard to wait!

Toward the end of May, a new volume of one of my favorite manga series was finally released…The Way of the Househusband, by Kousuke Oono.

The fifth volume of The Way of the Househusband continues to focus on Tatsu, a former yakuza member who became a househusband after getting married. This is the most recent volume of the series to be released in English, though volume six is scheduled to come out later this year (September 21st).

Like the previous books in the series, this volume presents scenes from Tatsu’s daily life in a series of short vignettes. Some of the featured events include: Tatsu’s attempt to take a day off while his wife is out of town, an unexpected rap battle, a Halloween costume contest, Tatsu being forced to take a “sick day,” and a trip to a local buffet-style restaurant.

I’ve loved this series ever since I picked up the first volume back in 2020, and I’ve enjoyed it even more as each new volume has been released. The premise of the manga is really unique, and Tatsu’s inability to separate his househusband lifestyle from his yakuza mindset creates a tremendous amount of humor. Just as I did while reading the previous books, I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading this most recent volume.

If you’re a fan of manga and enjoy humorous titles, then I highly recommend reading The Way of the Househusband from the very beginning. It’s a great series that has been a lot of fun to read!

And, if you’d like to learn more about this series, I hope you’ll check out my reviews of the previous books…

Happy reading!
