Good morning, everyone! The final day of April has arrived, which means that it is time for another Beat the Backlist update!
Since nearly all of my reading last month was focused on mystery novels (as part of March Mystery Madness), I decided to take a break from reading mysteries for the duration of April. Many of the books I chose to read this month were from the fantasy and science fiction genres, and the vast majority were young adult novels. I really enjoyed the books that I had the opportunity to read.
At the end of last month’s Beat the Backlist update, I mentioned that my goal for the month of April was to complete five additional Beat the Backlist prompts. While I cut it pretty close, I did manage to achieve my goal!
Here are the prompts I completed in April:
- Second book in a duology:
- Immunity (Erin Bowman)
- Non-fairytale re-telling:
- A Thousand Nights (E.K. Johnston)
- On the Indie Bestseller list in 2020 or earlier:
- Children of Blood and Bone (Tomi Adeyemi)
- Kept you up late reading:
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (L. Frank Baum)
- Book about bones OR “bone” in the title:
- Shadow and Bone (Leigh Bardugo)
Since I am still in the process of posting my reviews from last month’s March Mystery Madness readathon, I have not yet had an opportunity to review any of this month’s Beat the Backlist titles. However, I will be posting those reviews here on The Unapologetic Bookworm during the month of May (and probably the beginning of June).
Overall, I’m feeling really good about my current Beat the Backlist progress. I’ve officially passed the halfway point, and managed to complete 53% of my bingo board (a total of 28 squares, including the free space). I’m also getting really close to my first bingo!
Here is a look at my current bingo board progress…
Just like I did last month, I am going to be setting another goal for myself for the month of May. This time around, I will be attempting to get at least one bingo. Do you think I’ll manage to meet that goal? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
My next Beat the Backlist update will be posted on Monday, May 31st. In the meantime, I hope you will visit The Unapologetic Bookworm frequently for book reviews and other new content. Also, please be sure to come back tomorrow for this week’s POPSUGAR Reading Challenge update.
Have a great rest of the week!
