Good morning, everyone! The last day of March has arrived, and it’s time for another Beat the Backlist update!
As I’ve mentioned in my January and February updates, I’ve been trying to avoid selecting titles for this particular challenge ahead of time. I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to be spontaneous in my book selections for Beat the Backlist, as it’s allowed me to read books from a wide range of genres. While I continued to follow my “don’t select books in advance” policy during the month of March, this month was a little different because of my participation in March Mystery Madness.
Since March Mystery Madness lasted for the entire month, nearly all of the books I chose to read during March were mystery novels…with only a few exceptions. While I really enjoyed focusing on mystery novels this month (more on that in tomorrow’s March Mystery Madness wrap-up post), reading mostly mystery novels did have a somewhat adverse effect on my Beat the Backlist progress.
While many of the books that I chose to read for March Mystery Madness did fulfill Beat the Backlist prompts, the vast majority fulfilled prompts that I had already completed earlier in the year. As a result, I only completed three additional prompts this month.
Here are the prompts I completed in March:
- Multiple points of view:
- Features a carnival or circus:
- A Curious Beginning (Deanna Raybourn)
- Cover with your country’s flag colors:
- A Dark and Stormy Murder (Julia Buckley)
- While the cover of this book is not exclusively red, white, and blue, the scene depicted on the cover does include the following: a blue car with red tail lights, white pages from a book, and a blue house that has white trim and a red door.
I am currently planning to post my reviews of A Curious Beginning and A Dark and Stormy Murder during the month of April. I hope you will stop by The Unapologetic Bookworm to check out my reviews of both of these great titles.
Even though I did not complete very many squares on my bingo board this month, I feel pretty good about my overall progress. I have officially completed 43% of the board (which is a total of 23 squares, including the free space), and I’m getting closer to my first bingo.
Here is an updated look at my bingo board:
While this month’s Beat the Backlist progress wasn’t quite as significant as the previous months, I did really enjoy all of the books that I read. I’m looking forward to continuing the challenge next month, and I’ve decided to set a goal for next month’s reading…
By the end of April, I want to complete at least five additional prompts. Do you think I’ll manage to meet my goal? You can let me know in the comments below, or participate in my latest poll on Twitter.
The next Beat the Backlist update will be posted on April 30th. In the meantime, I hope you will visit The Unapologetic Bookworm frequently for book reviews and other new content. I also hope you’ll stop by tomorrow for my wrap-up of March Mystery Madness.
Have a great rest of the week!
