I recently decided to take a look back at the books that I’ve read so far this year, and noticed something very interesting. While I have read a fairly diverse selection of books as part of the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge, much of my reading outside of the challenge has been comprised of comic books/manga, old favorites, and interesting or humorous non-fiction. I’ve definitely been reading to fulfill a need; specifically a need for laughter, and for stories that just make me feel good.
One series of books that I found myself reaching for this year is Sarah’s Scribbles, which was created by artist Sarah Andersen. The current titles in this series include Adulthood Is A Myth, Big Mushy Happy Lump, and Herding Cats.
Andersen’s comics cover a multitude of topics, including, but not limited to: introversion, anxiety, functioning as an adult, stealing your boyfriend’s clothes, cats, motivation, reading, and some of the trials of being female. Her comics are not only clever and funny, but also very relatable.
I absolutely loved these books! There were many times while reading that I found myself laughing hysterically while thinking, “That’s totally me!”
If you haven’t had the opportunity to read any of these wonderful comics before now, I highly recommend checking out all three books. I’m sure that you will enjoy them.
If you’re interested in reading more of Sarah Andersen’s work, she does have two more titles coming out this year! The first of these books, Fangs, is about a relationship between a 300 year old vampire and a werewolf that she meets at a bar. I’ve been able to preview a few pages from the graphic novel on Amazon, and I’ve already fallen in love with the book. Fangs is due to be released as a hardcover on September 1st. The second book that comes out this year, Andersen’s fourth Sarah’s Scribbles collection, is scheduled for release on October 6th. I’m really looking forward to reading (and reviewing) both of these titles later this year!
