Good afternoon, everyone! I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far. I spent quite a lot of time reading over the weekend, and had the privilege to read several amazing books that I’m really looking forward to sharing with you throughout the week.
The first of these books, Happily Ever After & Everything In Between, is a collection of humorous and heartwarming comics about what it’s like to be married to your best friend. Cartoonist Debbie Tung explores a variety of situations, including: using your spouse as an excuse to get out of social commitments, dividing up household chores, purchasing a new home, grocery shopping, celebrating anniversaries, and having “deep, meaningful conversations.”
The style of these cartoons will already be familiar to you if you’ve read any of Debbie Tung’s other books, or if you follow her on social media. Her artwork achieves a nice balance between simplicity and detail, and does a great job of telling a story, even in cases where speech bubbles are entirely absent. I also really enjoy the fact that she consistently uses grayscale for her comics, rather than including color (or bouncing between color and black and white), but that is just a personal preference on my part.
I absolutely loved this book! Like Debbie Tung’s other comic collections, Happily Ever After & Everything In Between is a very fast read. It’s also one that you’ll want to come back to over and over again. I actually have a really hard time choosing a favorite comic from this collection, because I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
While some of these comics may be easier to relate to if you are married, you certainly don’t need to be in a relationship to enjoy this book. It’s a lovely read, and well worth your time. If you’re a fan of Book Love and/or Quiet Girl in a Noisy World, then you will definitely want to check out Happily Ever After & Everything In Between.
