POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2020 Update: Week Twenty-Three

Today’s POPSUGAR Reading Challenge update is coming to you a little later in the day than usual, mostly due to the fact that I’m having a hard time concentrating on writing today.

It’s been a really tough week.

As many of my longtime followers know, my mum was diagnosed with brain cancer (specifically, a glioblastoma) at the beginning of August last year. She was able to have the tumor surgically removed, and has been undergoing cancer treatment ever since recovering from her surgery. This week, after she had an MRI to check on the progress of her treatment, we were told that her scans show new tumor growth.

While a reoccurrence is not uncommon for people who have had a glioblastoma, my family is very much in shock right now. Mum is currently scheduled for surgery on Thursday, and the surgeon who removed the original tumor will be removing this one as well. Once the tumor is removed and Mum has recovered from surgery, she will most likely be taking a different kind of chemo, but we don’t have any details about that yet.

If you would be willing to keep my mum and our family in your thoughts and prayers this week (especially on Thursday, June 11th), we would greatly appreciate it.

As you might suppose, the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge has not been a priority this week. While I am currently reading a book that will fulfill a Reading Challenge prompt, I’m having a hard time staying focused on it. So, rather than spending the coming week trying to slog my way through a book that I’m not really enjoying (more on that in a future post), I’m going to be taking a week-long break from reading for the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge.

I will be continuing to post new book reviews on The Unapologetic Bookworm next week, but please bear with me if my posts are somewhat sporadic. At this point, I do not know if I will be able to go to the hospital with my mum and dad, since the hospital is currently limiting visitors to one person per patient. We have been told that hospital policy is changing almost daily though, so if I can be there, I definitely will be.

Thanks, everybody! I hope that you all have a great weekend!
